Padmanabham passed away

Only days after Telugu Cinema world is bereaved of Sree Gummadi Venkateswara Rao, another veteran Sree B. Padmanabham (78) passed away today in Chennai due to cardiac arrest.

Born on August 20, 1931 at Simhadripuram of Kadapa district to Basavaraju Venkata Seshaiah and Santhamma, Sree Padmanabham stepped into Telugu film industry in 1943 with the film Krishna Prema. His presence was noted in the films Mayalokam (1945), Radhika (1947), Shavukaru (1950), and Pathala Bhairavi (1951), and soon he became a popular choice for comedy. Much later in his career, he turned a producer with NTR-Savitri starrer Devatha (1965). His banner, which also had his colleague as theater artiste Vallam Narasimha Rao as producer, was named Rekha & Murali Productions, after Padmanabham's elder son Murali and Vallam Narasimha Rao's daughter Rekha. He made 10 films as producer, including notable films such as Potti Pleader-u (1966), Sree Sree Sree Maryada Ramanna (1967) in which he introduced S.P. Balasubhramanyam as playback singer, Sreerama Katha (1968) which he directed too, Kathanayika Molla (1970) which he also directed and won the State award too, Pelli Kaani Thandri (1976), acting in prominent roles in all of them. As an established actor, he enthralled the audience in various films, and films like Iddaru Mithrulu, Devatha, Pandava Vanavasamu, Potti Pleader-u, Paramanandayya Sishyula Katha, Sree Sree Sree Maryada Ramanna, Bhakta Prahlada, Sreerama Katha, Dasara Bullodu, and Pelli Kaani Thandri.

He maintained good health until the end, thanks to his healthy living habits and yoga practice. After considerable gap, he reappeared on the silver screen in a short role in Mayalodu (1993), in Balakrishna-starrer Bhairava Dweepam (1994) as the sorcerer's aide like in the classic film Pathala Bhairavi that made him popular, and in Subhamasthu (1995). Later, he acted in Chakram (2005) as himself and in Bhadra the same year. Sivaji-Krishna Bhagawan starrer Tata, Birla, Madhyalo Laila (2006) marked Sree Padmanabham's last screen appearance. However, he was seen actively participating in "Telugu Cinema Vajrotsavalu", even extemporaneously singing the popular number prEma kOsamai valalO paDenE paapam pasivaaDu... (Pathala Bhairavi) without even having to look at the lyric! (He indeed sang a few songs in films too earlier, such as maa ooru madaraasu... from Devatha.)

It's a sad time for fans of Telugu Cinema classics to see such much-celebrated veterans to leave the world.

Manchu Manoj's 'Vu Kodataaraa ….Ulikki Padataaraa’

Manchu Manoj who is known for experimenting films like ‘Nenu Meeku Telusaa’ and ‘Prayanam’ did not click that well at the box-office. But his recent action entertainer film, ‘Bindaas’ under the direction of a debutant, Veeru Potla has brought him success at the box-office.

Manoj seems to have raised his confidence levels with this film as his action in Bindaas got good praises. Manoj has already signed a film with Darshakendrudu K.Raghavendra Rao under his home banner ‘Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Films.’ Now, Manoj has also signed another film with a debutant director, Raja who earlier worked in Krishna Vamsy team unit. The movie is titled as ‘Vu Kodataaraa ….Ulikki Padataaraa’

Ravi Teja as 'Mirapakaya' - Veedu Chaala Hot Guru.

Ravi Teja is riding high in Tollywood. Though his recent movie Shambo Shiva Shambo doing an average business at the box office, he had quite a good number of interesting projects in this year.

'Veera' in Tolly2Holly production. The movie will be directed by Ramesh varma of Ride fame.Three heroines will be roped in for this film.

'Don Seenu' with Kick producers. Trisha is playing the female lead in this movie. Gopichand Malineni is debuting as director.

'Mirapakaya - Veedu Chaala Hot Guru' is the  another movie title under consideration more details awaited.

Allu Arjun in Lawrence direction.

As per the sources of CineHerald.com Chirographer, Actor turned Director Raghava Lawrence who directed the super hit  movies 'Maas', 'Don' with Nagarjuna, now he will direct a big budget film with stilish star Allu Arjun. More Derails awaited.

'Badmash' is a campus love story.

A s one steps into the college, one gets the feel of a festive atmosphere as the students are in a revelry mood singing and dancing on the huge campus grounds and lawn. You wonder whether the curriculum has been changed to a new method of teaching as you spot elderly men watch the ‘tamasha' sporting a smile. Since it is a college campus, we expect to see academicians. Soon we realise spotting the reflectors, the crane and the trolleys and other paraphernalia that it is a film shoot.

At the Vardhaman College of Engineering, academician-turned-producer G. Nagaiah and his G.P. Siddhardh Film Academy unit are shooting a song sequence for Badmash starring newcomers Naga Siddhardha and Ekta in the lead. Interestingly, the campus love story is directed by ‘Vandemataram' Srinivas. Taking the mantle of a director for the first time, the popular singer and music director in the company of the young actors is charged with youthful exuberance as he guides them to place the steps in unison with the rhythmic melodic beat he had created at the recording studios, earlier.

Looking at the performance of the lead players — Naga Siddhardha and Ekta — one gets the feeling that their on-screen chemistry is going to work well for the movie. Incidentally, producer Dr. Nagaiah has a Ph.D in chemistry and worked as a Principal of Siddhardh P.G. College in Hyderabad. Passion towards films drew him to the celluloid world. He roped in long time friend Srinivas to wield the megaphone.

The duo finally zeroed in on a mass subject (story: P.V. Giri) dealing with student psychology. Naga Siddhardha plays the title role, Avinash, otherwise known in the locality as Badmash. “It is a mass character. This badmash is not a rogue. Generally when some one does a mischievous act, elders in an affectionate note tell him not to do such badmashee. He is one such guy and his acts are misconstrued as badmashee. Watch him on the large screen and you will love him,” smiles Dr. Nagaiah.

Watching the ‘students' perform the song number, he tells you that one can find real college incidents and behaviour hitherto unseen in Telugu cinema. A romantic fun loving guy like any other youth of his age, the hero has a goal too — to bring in a sea change in the conventional system of teaching that is becoming more a burden on the student rather than helping him out. How he makes his point convincingly to both the parents and the academicians is the focal point. It also leaves a message ‘not to pester the children, make them read.' Instead of bringing out the creative talents in the students to the fore, the present system of education is producing them en masse. With all this it is a well packaged mass entertainer.”

The focus shifts to the song and the tune sounds fresh and peppy. “Mark my word, ‘Vandemataram' Srinivas's music from our film will be the chartbuster in 2010. I mean all the six songs from the film are going to be a hit,” says the confident producer. After completing the talkie part the unit is now filming the songs and this is the first of the lot. “This song will be shot in other locations — Siddhardh Institute of Technology, CVSR College and Pragathi Engineering College and we plan to shoot three songs in Philippines, Hong Kong and Bangkok.” Chandramohan, Suman, M.S. Narayana, Venumadhav and Dharmavarapu are in the cast. The film is slated for an April release.

RaNa's 'LEADER' Movie Review - Telugu Cinema Reviews

Movie Name : Leader
Rating : 3.25/5
Banner : AVM Productions

Producer : M Saravanan and MS Guhan
Director : Sekhar Kammula
Release Date:19 Feb, 2010
Summary:
The story of Leader is about a guy called Arjun Prasad (RaNa) who sets out to be
the leader of masses, by providing them with an empathetic and corruption free administration. The story is about how this sincere and idealistic guy faces challenges and how he circumvents them through his intelligent ways. In the process he becomes the CM of the state also. It's a saga of a young man who wishes to change the rules of system.
Scanning:
The man behind the scenes Sekhar Kammula has done his research well. This being his long cherished baby he has put his
heart and soul into the film. Though some glaring faults in some scenes are apparent, they could be over looked for the good effort put in. though the film would have been a drag with the presence of the heroines. The only area where the audience would feel suffocated would be the lack of comedy. The film scores in the sincerity of the effort and a novel idea. Surely it is a departure from the run of the mill song and dance sequence films that Tollywood is used to offer. The production values are excellent. Some of the scenes and dialogues hit the nail on the head, they convey the meaning they intend to, and surely emotions are racing when one hears them. The film is also a good roller-coaster ride emotion wise and the eyes would be wet every now and then seeing the tragic scenes. It's a one man show and the rest of the cast revolve round him. So RaNa is the man. He has done a good job and from no angle does he look a debutant. His upbringing in the filmy Khandan of Rama Naidu shows-upthe film. Subba Raju, Kota, Tannikella Bharani, Suhasini and the heroines Richa and Priya all do justice to their respective roles.
Round-Up:
A must watch for many reasons. One for the sincere effort, second for RaNa's excellent debut and third for an emotional ride! This is one film you would keep discussing in your head for at least a week after you have seen it. It is intelligent and
thought provoking. What else do you need in a film?
Cine Herald Verdict: It’s Honest And Good

Sequel to Chandramukhi

A few months ago there was news that a sequel for Rajinikanth’s ‘Chandramukhi’ is likely to happen soon. Now, the same news is on the buzz that the sequel to the block buster ‘Chandramukhi’ is on the cards.

P Vasu, the director of ‘Chandramukhi’ had already made the sequel in Kannada as ‘Aptha Rakshana’, the first part being ‘Apthamitra’. While ‘Apthamitra’ was the last film of Late Soundarya, ‘Aptha Rakshana’ is the last film of late Vishnuvardhan. Thissequel film was specially screened for Rajinikanth at Chennai recently. Along with him ‘Chandramukhi’ producers Ram Kumar and Prabhu of Sivaji Productions also attended this preview show.

Now what is remained to be seen is the green signal from Rajinikanth. To know about his opinion we have to wait for some more time along with director P Vasu. But right now the actor is busy with his latest flick ‘Robot’ as it has reached its final stages.

I love being called NTR’s grandson:Jr.NTR

While most star sons and daughters you come across are busy getting away from the shadows of their parents and leave no stone unturned to refrain from being typecastYoung Tiger NTR Jr, the grand son of NTR, is the opposite .

Indeed, he candidly confesses that being born in a star family helped him kick start his career enormously. “It helped me largely in the first movie itself because people believe that you have the same aura and capabilities as your grandfather. But after that an actor can only bank upon his acting skills. I love being called NTR’s grandson. I never moved away from his shadow may be because I didn’t try enough or may be because I like it this way,” says NTR Jr, who is currently shooting in Jaipur for his upcoming mega-budget film Sakthi.

Needless to say, making the most of the opportunity, NTR explored Rajasthan as much as “his hectic schedule allowed” him. “I went to Ajmer just after coming to Jaipur as my mom wanted me to pay obeisance at the dargah. I have also been to Pushkar and will now get to see Jodhpur when we go there for the shoot. This place has loads of beauty and when you shoot here, it gives you a royal feel. In fact when audience knows that the film is being shot in Rajasthan, they also have expectations of relishing the majestic locales on screen.”

And contrary to his perception - that he is not well-known in North India - the star finds his fan following where ever he goes. “I think some of my films like Kantri have been dubbed in Hindi because I had thought who would know me here? But at Pushkar people recognised me and were shouting my film’s name. Isn’t that fabulous? South comprises of a mixed community but in North there are fewer South Indians and there’s a vast difference between both. I was like wow people do recognise you here?”

Down south the star is treated as a demigod with his fans bathing the actor’s cutout with milk before his film’s release, will he ever take a plunge in Bollywood? “Never,” pat comes the reply and he adds, “I am happy being king down south. It’s my world and I am destined to be here (Telugu film industry) I don’t even want to try my luck in Tamil films, but I might think of Bollywood at some later stage.”

Indeed NTR doesn’t even want to change his image of a commercial hero and is not upbeat about being too experimental. “I am a commercial hero and I will never leave that genre. And having an image of a mass hero I will spoil the whole script in the wake of being too experimental. Then there are boundaries around a mass stirrer like me - audience buy the tickets of NTR Junior’s film with a larger-than-life image of his in their mind, who would give them an action-packed performance. So, I can’t flout the boundaries and disappoint them.” Point taken!

But would he ever take to direction or writing? “I believe in doing what I am best at. I don’t want to waste my energy in other things instead I would put all that in reaching the next level in a craft that I love the most.” As he once campaigned for TDP, do we see him donning the hat of a politician in the near future? “It is a different chapter of my life and I am not ready to open it now. Movies are my life and politics is a responsibility. I think I am too young for that.” However, it is surely the right age to tie the knot, so why the delay? But the shy actor makes a clean sweep from giving the reply, as he says, “I am a very shy person, who is just close to himself. So I would refrain from talking about my personal life.”

Swathi will enter sandalwood

Telugu newbie Swathi made her debut in the lead role with the Tamil flick Subramaniapuram. Now the actress might act in her first Kannada film opposite Shivrajkumar. Chandru, the director of the untitled film confirmed that he has approached Swathi for the role. He says, “I have approached Swathi. But the dates are yet to be finalised. Since Swathi is now doing a Tamil film with Vikram, she does not want a clash of dates. But I am confident that this issue can be sorted out. I will be narrating the story to her, if she agrees to act in this film. The heroine’s role suits her perfectly.”
Swathi was an anchor for a TV channel and her programme was a hit with Telugu viewers. She entered the film industry with Aadavari Maataluku Arthaale Verule, which had Venkatesh and Trisha in the lead roles, but her role was appreciated.
The film’s title has been tentatively fixed as Mylari. It will be produced by Kananapura Sreenivas who had earlier made successful films like Yuvaraja and Santha with Shivarajkumar. Guru Kiran is the music director. But the title Mylari is now with Ashwini Ram Prasad who has already registered it in the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. The film’s co-producer Srikanth says that he shares a cordial relationship with Ram Prasad and hopes that the title will be transferred to their production house

Samantha in NTR's Brindavanam

Actress Samantha, who is making her debut with Naga Chaitanya’s second movie Ye Maya Chesave is cast as one of the heroines in NTR’s next movie Brindavanam. Kajal Agarwal is playing other heroine. Padipally Vamsi (Munna fame) directs this movie. SS Thaman composes music. Dil Raju is the producer.

Shriya’s item song completed for Pawan's 'Komaram Puli'

It is already intimated to our viewers that shriya saran will be doing an item number in Pawan kalyan’s upcoming film, ‘Komaram Puli’. Now, the news is that the shooting part of this song has been completed. Shriya has acted in none of the straight telugu films from a couple of years, but was doing few item numbers. The actress is now busy with a Malayalam project opposite hero Prithviraj. She is debuting with this film in Malayalam.

Hero Uday Kiran enters the luxuriously done up drawing room with heroine Swetha Basu Prasad as cinematographer Raghava captures the quizzical look on the faces of Ashish Vidyardhi, Nalini, ‘Nizhalgal' Ravi, Rajyalakshmi and Aarthi. ‘Chitram' Srinu followed the young couple. The director ordered for a ‘cut' to brief the next block in the scene, a light hearted one.

The camera position is changed and the reflectors are placed accordingly. As the shoot progresses one understands that Ashish Vidyardhi is cast as the maternal uncle of Uday who stays with him. Nalini plays Udya's aunt while Ravi and Rajyalakshmi are cast as his parents. As is customary, the maternal uncle harps with the idea of getting his daughter (Arthi) married to his nephew Uday but the hero had already fallen inlove with Swetha. But he hasn't got the courage to tell his uncle about his love. Finally he brings his lady love home to introduce her to his uncle and family members and his struggle creates humour. “It is a comedy scene,” informs the producers D. Kumar and Easwara Prasad. Termed as a maturedlove story, the film has no conventional villains but there is a certain force that the protagonist is forced to fight against within a set period of time to save his lover andlove ‘leading to an intriguing and absorbing climax.'

The unit has shot the pivotal scenes for close to two weeks in Chennai and Puducherry along with two songs choreographed by Sivaji and tuned by Pradeep Koneru. “The theme unveils the tender feelings and emotional upheavals in the young lovers creating a feelgood movie experience for the audience. With this shoot, we have completed sixty per cent of the portions. Popular comedians will participate in the next schedule in which the climax part and the remaining two songs will be filmed,” informed the executive producer Soma Vijay Prakash.

Presented by U.K. Avenues, the film is slated for a summer release.

Scanning:
The director has come up with a different theme and both the presentation and narrative have been okay. The dialogues were neat, the script was average but the screenplay was interesting. Background score was weak but two songs can be taken home for sure. Cinematography was top notch. Editing could have been better. Costumes were rich and the art department was quite creative. Nagarjuna has come up with a elegant performance and mysteriously, he is looking much younger than his earlier movie, Mamatha might be a disappointment for the glam lovers since her role doesn't have any oomph, it is more performance driven. Sayaji Shinde was regular, Brahmanandam was superb again, the real show belongs to Ankur and Rahul Dev who came up with a mean act, the others did their bit as required.

Round-Up:
The film is more of an entertainer and while the first half goes about with the regular elements of friendship, love and action, it is the second half that has got few serious moments and a predictable climax. The technical aspects of the film are high and the comedy track was also focused well. However, it is not an impact creating film and is more of a time pass. At the box office, it could be an above average grosser. The brand value ofNagarjuna and the presence of Mamta might get in good opening collections.

CineHerald Verdict : Watch it
